"THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY BRIDGE "

bay bridge.jpg (42k)

One thing that annoys me more than the word "FRISCO" is when visitors to San Francisco call this the Golden Gate Bridge. The Bay Bridge is a year older, works harder, carries two levels of traffic, and, in my opinion, is more beautiful than her better-known sister that connects The City to Marin County to the north..

This picture was taken from YERBA BUENA (which means "good weed") ISLAND in the middle of San Francisco Bay. From here, the double-deck roadway tunnels through the island and a longer span connects The City with Oakland and Berkeley to the east. Every time I drive across toward San Francisco, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling for our beautiful City. When I've been away for more than a few days, I get a bit teary-eyed and can hear Jerry Garcia singing:

"TRUCKIN' I'm a-goin' home . . . "
