"AMERICA'S TURNING GAY"

This is the corner of OCTAVIA, WALLER and MARKET streets in San Francisco. The billboard originally said, "AMERICA'S TURNING 7UP". The clever artist added signs on the chests of Nature Lover 2 and Nature Lover 3 saying "I'm1" and "I'm12". I took the picture in 1979. Amazingly, the billboard remained this way for several months. This building recently was selected to be renovated and converted into a gay community center.
